Are you an experienced maritime professional looking for a role with responsibility, variety and long-term development potential?

Scrabster Harbour Trust is seeking an Assistant Harbourmaster / Trainee Pilot to support the safe and efficient management of marine operations at Scrabster Harbour.

This is a hands-on operational role in a busy and varied harbour environment, supporting ferry operations, fishing vessel movements, cruise calls, commercial cargo activity, offshore and marine services traffic. The successful candidate will work closely with the Harbourmaster and Deputy Harbourmaster, supporting day-to-day marine operations and helping maintain high standards of safety, compliance and service delivery.

The post also provides a structured training and development pathway. Over time, the successful candidate will undertake training in harbour pilotage, local knowledge, marine safety management, risk assessment, incident response and harbour authority responsibilities, with the aim of progressing towards authorised harbour pilot duties.

Candidates should have significant practical maritime experience, sound seamanship, strong safety awareness, good communication skills and the ability to work flexibly when operational requirements demand.

Desirable experience includes STCW certification, port or harbour operations, marine supervisory experience, VHF communications, workboat operations, mooring, or small craft handling.

This is an opportunity to build a long-term maritime career in the north of Scotland, contributing to the safe operation and future resilience of an important regional harbour.
