Applications Close:

20th October 2026

We are looking for an Environmental Specialist with experience in Geo-Environmental, Contaminated Land and/or Remediation disciplines to join our Site Services team and support the Land Quality Team’s vital work at Dounreay.  This role offers a unique opportunity to apply your geo‑environmental expertise within a specialist area of the nuclear industry, contributing directly to safe decommissioning and long‑term environmental protection.

Working on complex, real‑world challenges, you will help strengthen how land quality is managed across the site, supporting improved safety outcomes, regulatory confidence and the future closure of a nationally important facility.

What will I be doing:

In this role, you will deliver high‑quality land quality assessments and environmental data analysis to support decommissioning activities and informed decision‑making.  You will contribute to investigations, remediation and reporting across the full lifecycle of land quality management, while working closely with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure information is accurate, accessible and fit for purpose.  Key responsibilities are:

  • Undertake land quality activities across all phases, from preliminary assessment through to remediation and site closure
  • Produce, interpret and report complex environmental data and technical assessments
  • Prepare, review and maintain land quality documentation, systems and annual reporting
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to support safe, efficient project delivery
  • Manage staff as a line manager, as required
  • Perform management appointments relevant to the post

What will I bring:

You will be a motivated and organised environmental professional with a sound technical background and the confidence to work across multiple priorities. Able to communicate clearly and solve problems creatively, you will bring practical experience and a collaborative approach to a regulated working environment.

  • HND in an engineering or scientific discipline (or equivalent experience)
  • Experience in contaminated land assessment and/or remediation
  • Proven ability to plan work, meet challenging deadlines and develop effective technical solutions
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to meet role‑specific physical capability assessment requirements

We are looking to hold interviews week commencing Monday 2nd of November 2026, however, please note that this vacancy may close earlier than the stated deadline should we receive a high volume of applications, so we encourage you to submit your application as soon as possible.

If you require assistance at any point during the recruitment process contact careers@dounreay.nrservices.uk at the appropriate time so we can make any necessary, reasonable adjustment.
