A vacancy has arisen within balance of site programme for a health and safety advisor. The purpose of the post is to provide nuclear site health and safety advice to projects and facilities. The post holder will provide authoritative advice on health and safety matters as defined in health and safety legislation and NRS Dounreay standards and procedures.

The successful candidate will form an integral part of the safety, health, environment, and quality team supporting the delivery of the balance of site and site services programmes. The safety team provides a service to the projects and facilities from assisting with planning and project initiation to implementing correct safety controls and monitoring compliance with health and safety legislation and site arrangements. The post holder will work closely with project managers, ATO holders and other stakeholders to develop practical solutions to safety issues, driving innovation and continuous improvement within the programme.
Main Responsibilities:
- Provide health and safety advice to projects and facilities
- Review and comment on work instructions and associated documentation
- Contribute to the design and delivery of industrial health & safety training packages
- Liaise with stakeholders, including regulators and auditors on health and safety issues
- Undertake and report on planned and unplanned health and safety inspections, walkrounds, and audits, reporting observed safety deficiencies and suggest remedial action
- Represent NRS Dounreay at internal forums
- Contribute to and, on occasion, lead risk assessments
- Chair or contribute to investigations
- Perform the responsibilities of management appointments relevant to post
Aptitudes, qualifications and experience:
- NEBOSH national general certificate or construction certificate
- Membership of IOSH
- Excellent communication skills
- Comprehensive industrial experience (including construction experience)
