The Carbisdale Forest walk truly showcases the tranquil beauty and solitude of the Kyle of Sutherland. This circular walk boasts views of the historic Carbisdale Castle built in the early 1900s by the Duchess of Sutherland, then further up the path you can view right down the strath to Ardgay and Bonar Bridge. Followed by a stroll through the heart of Carbisdale Forest, where you will feel miles away from anything or anyone, with the only noise being the flowing fresh water streams and crackling of the trees above head. This then takes you out to the completely unspoilt Carbisdale Loch, teeming with wildlife. A sanctuary for anyone looking to escape from it all.  

For those interested in local history, this circular trail is steeped in local stories, such as the story behind Duchess of Sutherland and Carbisdale Castle, also known as the ‘Castle of Spite’, or the site of the Battle of Carbisdale which took place in 1650. A key location in Sutherland’s deep-rooted history.
