Eas á Chual Aluin – Britain’s Highest Waterfall
This walk takes you right into the unspoilt heart of the Assynt Mountains which almost feels like being transported into another land
This is a magnificent walk perfect for any keen photographers looking to capture the real essence of the West of Sutherland and the unique rock formations which contribute to the breathtaking North West Highland Geopark, one of the far North’s World Heritage Sites.
The route leads to Eas á Chual Aluin, otherwise known as Britain’s highest waterfall, where you can see right down through the brooding glen onto the vast beauty of Loch Glencoul.
Although the most of this walk has a clear path (which can be rocky at times), the start can be very boggy, meaning that appropriate clothing and equipment is needed. Care should also be taken when approaching the viewpoint for the Falls due to the steep drop into the glen below. Although the breathtaking views make this extra effort worthwhile!
- Distance: 6 miles / 9.75 km
- Grade: Moderate – Hard
