Loch More Loop (via Halkirk and Westerdale)

Begin your ride in Thurso, heading south along quiet rural roads to the village of Halkirk, nestled on the banks of the River Thurso. From here, continue through open farmland to Westerdale, where the landscape becomes more remote and wild.

The route then leads you deeper into the Caithness Flow Country towards Loch More, a peaceful and expansive loch surrounded by moorland—a perfect spot for a rest and a moment of solitude. From Loch More, loop back north via Scotscalder, following single-track roads through heather-covered hills and wide skies.

This scenic circuit covers roughly 35–40 miles (56–64 km), offering a mix of gentle climbs, quiet roads, and striking Highland landscapes—ideal for riders seeking a more challenging yet peaceful escape into the far north. Remember to bring supplies, this is a remote trail offering pure solitude.
