Lochview Rural Training is situated in the beautiful Sutherland landscape. We are a social enterprise with the key aim to promote, organise and deliver rural learning, training and career opportunities, improving awareness, knowledge and access to our rural landscape and to promote an understanding of the value of rural life for social wellbeing for all.

Set on the beautiful banks of Loch Shin in Lairg, Sutherland, Lochview Rural Training offers hands-on, inclusive learning experiences celebrating Scotland’s crofting heritage and rural life. As a registered Scottish charity, we’re committed to preserving traditional skills, promoting wellbeing, and supporting community learning across the Highlands.

Our adult training programme includes practical workshops such as drystone dyking, fencing, introduction to sheep, croft experience sessions, and heritage crafts all designed to build skills, confidence, and connection to the land.

For young people, we offer a range of engaging year-round opportunities, including our Junior Crofters (ages 7–11), Young Crofters (ages 12–19), and Roots & Ranger sessions. We also deliver an 8-week Introduction to the Land-Based Sector course for 16–25-year-olds, providing valuable insight into rural careers and sustainable living.

Every adult workshop directly supports our youth programmes, helping us inspire and equip the next generation of crofters and rural stewards.
