Road to Bettyhill
The Strathnaver Trail by Bike
Cycle Trail: Distance 50 miles (80 km) with longer loop option. Grade: Moderate
This remote Highland route begins in the coastal village of Bettyhill, heading inland along the quiet single-track road through Strathnaver. You’ll pass through the peaceful hamlet of Skelpick, riding alongside the River Naver with gentle climbs and sweeping views of moorland and hills.
Continue south to reach Altnaharra, a small village at the foot of Ben Klibreck, nestled beside Loch Naver. This makes a good turnaround point for a return ride via the same tranquil glen.
For a longer loop, follow the B873 east along the loch, then north on the A836 through wild, open country back to the coast, returning to Bettyhill via Tongue.
Highlights: Historic clearance sites, Bettyhill, Loch Naver
Route: Bettyhill → Skelpick → Altnaharra → return or loop
