Two Trainee Opportunities at Lyth Arts Centre

As part of our Young Music Makers (YMM) Programme, we are looking for two musicians or creatives aged 18 – 25 to become new Trainees at Lyth Arts Centre.

The trainees will support professional musicians delivering workshops for children and young people, ranging from Early Years for babies and toddlers to Youth Music sessions for teenagers, across different genres. Sessions run on weekends, school holidays and in-service days, with the programme running until April 2026.

This is a unique opportunity to build skills, gaining valuable experience working with young people in a workshop setting and supporting a range of professional musicians. There will be the chance to shadow music industry professionals, like sound engineers and lighting technicians through Lyth Arts Centre’s events programme, offering a real insight into careers across the creative industries.

The trainees will work with the Engagement and Participation Manager to design a personal development plan, with access to a dedicated training budget. This could include online or in-person courses, mentorships, or other opportunities tailored to their chosen areas of interest. For example in this past, trainees have used this opportunity to study Audio Engineering, Audio Mastering and Mixing online

This is a fantastic opportunity for a musician or creative young person looking to gain experience of working in the creative industries. No experience is required but a strong interest in music, music education and creative industries is a must.

This traineeship runs for six months, from November 2025 to April 2026. You’ll be paid £12.60 per hour (the Real Living Wage).

You’ll work flexibly, with a total of:

  • 12 full 8 hour days helping with workshops
  • 10 hours of planning sessions
  • 30 hours of training and development
  • This is 136 hours in total, so like working just over 5.5 hours a week for 6 months.
  • The deadline to apply is Sunday 16th November 2025 at midnight.

Please contact [email protected] if you have any questions.

If you’d prefer to apply in another format (for example by video or voice), just get in touch with Helen and we’ll make it work.
